The revival of 80’ and 90’ aesthetics in today’s gaming, is a product of adulthood of first generations of gamers that actively recreate their childhood visions, contrasting the contemporary larger-than-life 3D triple A games of the mainstream, with blocky less-is-more synthetic approach, appraised in the indie niche. The success of such projects (“Papers, Please”, “Cartlife”, “Stardew Valley”, “Undertale”) proves the undeniable potential of apparently simple graphic & sound in realization of meaningful game experiences.
Goal of this course is to provide insight for all the necessary steps in creation of personal gaming projects, from concepting and narrative, sound/character/level design, integration of elements within a authoring system, to presentation. At the end of the course, game-concepts and playable prototypes get realized, published and evaluated.
